Tragedy struck in the early night of Monday , when an inferno razed no fewer than fourty three vehicles and seventy two shops at the Buzaye auto- mechanic village , in Sokoto Our Correspondent gathered that, the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained although there was no loss of life recorded in the blaze.
However , vehicle spareparts , automechanic, electrical and welding materials , as well as other accessories and general wares were believed to have been destroyed by the inferno.
Eye witnesses say the fire which started at around 8.30pm, Monday, was only put out at around 1.00am, Tuesday, by the combined efforts of the men of the Sokoto State Fire Service, shops owners and good Samaritans.
Both the State Chairman of the National Association of Auto-Mechanics, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru and the Buzaye Branch Chairman, Mr Olu Roberts , have lamented how the fire had destroyed what most of their members had laboured for, for in several decades .
The duo, who expressed delight that , no life was lost, however called on the Federal,Sokoto State and Sokoto South Governemnts , to come to their urgent assistance , to enable the victims to restart their businesses.
Officials of the National and Sokoto State Emergency Management Agencies had since paid consideration visits to the victims .
The Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on SEMA, Alhaji Zubairu Sanyinna , represented by the Director-General of the Agency , Alhaji Nasiru Alhaji Aliyu, pledged that, the state government will soon assist the victims.
The Senior Search and Rescue Officer , NEMA, Sokoto Office, Alhaji Aminu Ambursa, also promised Federal Government’s assistance to the victims .
On his part , the Sole Administrator ,Sokoto South Local Government, Alhaji Faruku Sayudu, had c ommiserated with the victims , just as he also pledged to render the council’s widow’s mite to them .
