INSECURITY IN KATSINA STATE: THE NEED FOR FERVENT PRAYER AND FASTING BY HON.SALISU YUSUF Mt01GIR1

(GARKUWAN GABAS) CHAIMAN PDP, KATSINA STATE

The high increaæ in insecurity in Katsina State is of serious concern to all Of us. The spate of killings, banditry and kidnappings are daily on the increase. This should be a source of concern to all as it cuts across all boarders. The in-laws of both the President and Governor of the State were kidnapped at one time. A Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman was once kidnapped. A high profile Islamic Scholar was Kidnapped. Even though these were released, majority of the masses kidnapped on daily basis and payment of ransoms is a daily occurrences. Many lives have been lost in so many instances, the District head of Yantumaki was killed, the village heads of Birchi and Mazoji were killed.

The APC Chairman of Batsari LG was killed, the PDP Chairman of Sabuwa LG was killed. Aside these killings many more people have lost their lives in tie course of the process of kidnapping or refusal to pay ransom or through torture in the hands of the kidnappers. Aside from the 10 local governments areas of Sabuwa, Dandume, Faskari, Kankara, Danmusa, Batsari, Safana, Kurfi, Jibiya and Dutsinma, that are most insecure other local governments like Kankia, Matazu, Musawa have been very vulnerable. However, fear has been thrown in to the minds of residens of the whole state since there were semblances of kidnapping in local governments even not dose to the frontline local governments.

AS a result of cattle rustling and payment of ransom many families have been thrown into abject poverty. Cattle rearing and farming have been the major source of livelihoods for most of our local communities, most of the cattle have been rustled or have been sold together with farmlands to
pay for ransom, through this billions of naira have been lost, there by impoverishing the people, houses, property and villages are destroyed rendering victims homeless. Many people have been thrown into IDP’s camp. The children in these camps no longer attend schools, no good health care, food and portable drinking water. The consequences of these rustlings and Kidnappings have thrown the state into economic and social backwardness.

Every responsible citizen must show his or her concern on this high rate of insecurity in Katsina State. The Kidnap of Three hundred and thirty three (333) students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara Who are in captivity currently as announced officially by Governor Aminu Bello masari mostly below the age of eighteen is the hallmark of this dastardly acts by this kidnappers, condemning it alone would not suffice. We however show our empathy and sympathize with the Parents and guardians of these children. We are therefore appealing to all able bodied men and women of Katsina State to embark on fasting tomorrow Monday, 14″‘ December, 2020 and then offer prayers to Allah SMtT as a means of seeking succor from Him to bring an end to this menace. We also pray that these innocent children reunite with their families safely.

We also calling on governments both state and federal to live up to their constitutional responsibility as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution 1999 under chapter I I (Fundamental Objectives and directive principles of state policy) section 14(2b) the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government The Federal Government should ginger it’s Armed Forces to flush out these bandits from their hideouts.

The State Government should as a matter of urgency restore elected local Councils officials (34 LG Chairmen, 34 LG Vice Chairmen and 361 Councilors) this will jn no small way apart from tackling provide the much needed synergy between security forces, religious leaders„ traditional leaders and various youth groups and other local officials to help tackle this monstrous situation.

Finally, it’s very clear that government is no longer proactive but reactive to security challenges facing the state daily, we are calling on Gov. Aminu Bello Masari to remember the oath taken and swore by the HOIy Qur’an to uphold and defend the provisions of Nigerian constitution and act accordingly.

May Allah guide

HON. SALISU YUSUF MAJIGIRI (GARKUWAN GABAS)
