The management of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, UMYU, Katsina has expressed it’s readiness to sponsor a professor in each faculty on a one week research training in any foreign university from next academic session.
In a statement signed by AbdulHamid Danjuma, the institution’s head of Information and Protocols and made available to newsmen yesterday in Katsina , the VC UMYU, Prof. Sanusi Mamman disclosed this at the end of a two day training workshop on capacity building for staff of the institution.
Mamman said the foreign training for the Professors is meant to open more opportunities for the academic staff to acquire additional and relevant skills to ginger the growth of the university.
“The institution needs the versatile experience of each and every academic staff to help in realizing it’s goals in learning, teaching and training of the upcoming leaders of tomorrow”, he said.
While urging the academic staff to redouble their efforts in the drive to impart skills and knowledge to the youths, the VC called on all stakeholders to offer advises and suggestions to enable it attain desired results.
He also announced that, the computer based test and examinations for the university’s undergraduate students would soon be phased out.
This idea, he said is meant to encourage the students writing skills, accelerate their proficiency in English language and improve their ability for self expression in the official language.
Mamman however commended Governor Aminu Bello Masari for the support given by his administration to the university which has assisted in giving it an edge over it’s peers in the country.
