Katsina state Government has inaugurated an executive council committee on improvements of welfare for orphans and Widows of the victims of insurgency in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed and made available to blueinknews by media aide to the state deputy governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Kallah.

The deputy Governor, QS Mannir Yakubu, who is the chairman of the committee, said the executive council during it’s 6th regular meeting has noted with concern the impact of the activities of bandits on the socio-economic well-being of the affected communities, particularly orphans and widows.

As a result the council constituted a committee led by the deputy Governor to advise the government on how to improve the lives of orphaned children in the eleven frontline local governments ravaged by bandits.

Other terms of refrence of the committee include to identify orphans and widows in the affected local government areas and to suggest the kind of assistance to be provided to the victims by government.

Others are determining the source of financing the project and also coopt any other individual that may assist in the conduct of the committee’s assignment.

Composition of the committee include commissioners of Budget and Planning, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties and Women Affairs.

Others members are Special Advisers on Community Development, Higher Education, Economic Empowerment and Social Intervention, as well as that of Political Matters.

The rest are representatives of NGOs, Ulamas and Governor’s office as secretariat.

The committee immediately swung into action after it’s inauguration.
