The Katsina State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi, has urged clerics to intensify efforts toward preaching on the dangers associated with posting defamatory comments against others on social media platforms.
Danladi made the call on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of one-day workshop for Scholars Conducting Tafsir in the month of Ramadan in Katsina.
The theme of the workshop is “Contribution of places of Tafsir in Enhancing Security and Peaceful Coexistence”.
“In your Tafsir, tell people that whatever defamatory comments they posted on social media against others, will be widely circulated, and the initiator will account for that here and in the Day of Judgement,” he said
He also urged the clerics to continue to tell leaders their responsibility and what was expected of them.
Danladi said that leaders and clerics should continue to work together with the aim of ensuring peace and stability in the country.
“In the Day of Judgement, Allah will ask each and every one of us on our responsibilities, and will punish us for our negligence in addressing problems bedeviling the society,” he said.
In his remarks, the state Grand Kadi, Dr Kabir Abubakar, said that the workshop was organised for the clerics because of the role they play in shaping people’s character.
Abubakar said that the commission would also organise similar workshop for traders, farmers, workers, and other segment of people in the society.
He called on the state government to establish Zakat and Endowment Board, Weight and Measure, as well as, Hizbah Board, to address issues related to immortality and other social vices in the society.
The Grand Kadi urged clerics clerics to continue to pray to the Almighty Allah to bring peace and stability in the country.
In his remarks, the Secretary, Katsina State Shariah Commission, Alhaji Magaji Liman, commended the state government for the support it has been given to the commission.
