Consumers of goods and services have been advised to employ better ways to manage and tackle pollution caused by plastic to human beings and the environment.
Mr Julius Haruna, the acting Zonal Coordinator Northwest, Consumers Protection Council CPC, gave this advise while speaking with newsmen in Katsina as part of activities to commemorate the World Consumers Protection Right Day.
Haruna who described the theme of this year’s celebration as “No To Plastic Pollution” urged consumers to properly dispose off plastic waste to protect the environment from any hazard.
The CPC zonal boss who noted that, plastic pollution causes threat to humans, animals and the environment, said government at all levels are spending huge amount of money to manage plastic waste, as part of efforts to avert global warming.
He maintained that, the North Western states are expected to capitalize on this year’s celebration to find better ways of managing plastic waste instead of the old ways of indiscriminate dumping of the waste.
Haruna expressed the readiness of the council to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in managing, recycling and proper usage of plastic materials.
While advising people against public burning of used plastic materials because of its danger to human health, he further urged consumers to always insist on standard goods and services to ensure safety.
