The Sokoto State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, wishes to call on Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to ensure that he gives full account of the Local Government funds running into hundreds of billions of Naira. This is because since the beginning of the Aminu Tambuwal administration, local government funds have not been utilized for the purposes intended.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Acting Chairman of the Party in the State, Hon. Isa Sadiq Acida, Turakin Acida and issued to Newsmen in Sokoto, on Thursday.
It said that, the non of the local governments in Sokoto State can show any tangible project, completed or ongoing, within its area of jurisdiction; in spite of the fact that all monies standing to the credit of Local governments of Sokoto State, from the federation account have been duly remitted, as and when due.
” Records from impeccable sources confirm that the quantom of money received in favor of the local Governments in Sokoto State from the beginning of the Tambuwal administration is in the neighborhood of Two Hundred and Eighty Billion Naira.
“This amount, if judiciously deployed was enough to have provided for education, Healthcare, Agriculture, Water Supply, Roads construction, Sanitation and Environmental care to people living in our rural areas.
“It is disheartening to note that even our traditional Institutions have been neglected, to the extent that the only vehicles they are using in the discharge of their onerous duties are those bought by a previous administration.
” The vehicles, because of neglect and resultant wear and tear, have mostly become dilapidated.”
The APC in Sokoto State added that, in the history of Sokoto State, it is only the administration of Governor Tambuwal that has failed to complete the only Secondary School it started six years ago in Gudu local government.
APC said,” We in the All Progressives Congress APC, wish to call on the Sokoto State Government, under Governor Tambuwal to immediately implement the New National Minimum Wage at the local governments level, as well as to Primary School Teachers, just as it has done to their counterparts in the State Civil Service.
“This we believe, is the best way to boost the morale of local government staff and primary school teachers, keep them in their places of work and solve the problem of absenteeism among this category of workers,”.
“A situation where local government secretariats are like ghost towns, while primary school pupils spend whole day playing due to the absence of their teachers is most unfortunate.
It is also worthwhile to recall that following the fire incident that gutted the Sokoto Main Market, some months ago, Governor Tambuwal pledged to reconstruct the market within Two months, a promise, they alleged appears to have gone down the drain.
” The situation at the Sokoto Main Market is today even more confused and uncertain than when the incident happened.
“That not withstanding, the Government should consider releasing to the traders the donations which some philanthropic persons and bodies have donated to the victims. This is desirable, considering the fact that the Holy month of Ramadan is around the corner, a period that is synonymous with high level of commercial activities.”
