Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a former Director at Katsina Local Government Service Commission, Alh. Yaro Lawal in his home in Danmusa area

Sources told this reporter that the bandits came in motorcycles immediately after the Magrib prayers when Muslim faithfuls were breaking Wednesday fast and ordered the former Civil servant to follow them.

“He was met alongside some few people in the frontage of his house which is a stone throw from the Police station. They (bandits) asked him to climb one of the motorcycle and follow them which he refused.”

The source, who pleads anonymity, said most of the people there ran for their lives as soon as the rampaging bandits drove into the town, stressing that “the few who stayed watched helplessly as bandits shot Alhaji severally.”

One of those who fled communities of Gurza and Tsamiyar all under Danmusa local government area, who spoke to this newspaper said he was at home in the early evening when the marauding bandits drove into the village.

He told 21 Katsina Beat, “I was outside my house and I saw them coming into the village. I counted thirty motorcycles carrying four bandits each with sophisticated weapons. I didn’t wait to finish counting because people were running for their lives. I had to join those running, without knowing where to go.”

The old man, who now lives in Hajj Camp area on Daura road, said he left Tsamiyar Jino with nothing save for the clothes he wore.

Another displaced person, who is now taking refuge in Sabuwar Unguwa and gave his name as Sale said his family house lost six cattles during the attack.

“As I speak to you now Malam, wallahi there is nobody in Gurza village. We have all left the village because nobody knows what happens next. We are being attacked on daily basis.”

Sale, who said he walked from Gurza to Tsamiyar Jino, thought he would be lucky to get refuge there with his family, “I was not surprised when I found out that Tsamiyar Jino too was attacked. But they are a bit lucky because in our village, there is nobody to be seen there. We have all left.”

When contacted the Katsina Police command spokesman SP Gambo Isa promised to “check for details” and respond to our reporter.
