Community of Potiskum Local Government area of Yobe State have appalled to the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, to consider appointing Dr Muhammad Yunusa as new provost of Federal College of Education Technical (FCET) Potiskum, Yobe state.
Speaking to newsmen in Damaturu, Yobe State capital,the comminty leader Alhaji Mohammeadu Usman started that, the acting Provost of the College Dr Muhammad Madu Yunusa has all the requisite credentials to appointing as a Provost of college of Education Technical Potiskum.
According to him, Dr Yunusa was a chief lecturer at the Federal College of Education Technical Potiskum, in Yobe, “Some academies, politicians and traditional rulers in the state have backed Dr. Muhammad Madu Yunusa based of his requirement. They are appealing to the minister to consider appointing ‘a son of the soil’,” he said.
Another indigent of Potiskum town, Ado Mamman described acting Provost as a honest, dedicated, trustworthy and matual understanding person, who has all capacity to appointed as a new provost of the college.
“I will like to tell you that, I known him for the past 30 years in the college, he have every right to be a next provost of this college through his educational qualifications. I’m appealing to the president Muhammadu Buhari and minister of education Adamu Adamu to appointed Dr Yunusa as new provost. We need our own blood.”
He lamented that, FCE (T) Potiskum has been in existence for 31 years (1989-2021) We call on the Honourable Minister of Education to rescue FCE (T) Potiskum from the non performing college among the others, appointing Dr Yunusa, so that academic and non- academic activities would progress in the institution.”
Our correspondent who visited the college reported that, the Acting provost Dr. Muhammad Madu Yunusa hailed from Biu, Borno State. He attended Mandafuma Primary School from 1976-1981. He proceeded to Comprehensive Secondary School Waka-Biu for his Secondary Education from 1981-1986.
He was admitted through JAMB to study Agriculture at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin Kwara State from 1986-1991. After the Mandatory one year National service at Akure the then Ondo State capital. He joined the service of Yobe State Teaching Service Board as classroom teacher at the Government Senior Science Secondary School Potiskum from 1993-1997.
He left and joined the service of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum as Lecturer III in the Department of Agricultural Science in 1997. In his effort to be a professional teacher he had a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Computer Operation certificates from the University of Maiduguri and Federal College of Education (Technical) Potiskum in 2003 and 2007 respectively. He also had Post graduate Diploma in Public Administration and policy from University of Maiduguri.
However, Dr.Yunusa had his Master and Ph.D. Degrees in Animal production from the University of Ilorin Nigeria in 2009 and 2016 respectively. He rose through the ranks to the position of Chief lecturer. He is a member of many professional bodies, such as Nigerian Society of Animal Production (NSAP), National Association of Research and Development (NARD), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and a Fellow Charted Institute of Public Diplomacy Management (FCIPDM ) .
Mainwhile, Yunusa has served the College in different capacity such as Exams officer School of Vocational, Head of Department Agricultural Education, Dean School of Vocational Education, Academic Board Representative on the College Governing Council, Chairman and membership of many committees, Member of College Management Committee. He has many publications in local and international journals and textbooks to his credits. He has equally attended and presented many papers at local and International conferences. His areas of interest include, reading, research, Animal husbandry. Dr. Yunusa was the Deputy Provost of the College and presently the Acting Provost. He is married with children.
