NEDC Partner Yobe To Support Women Farmers In The State

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) in collaboration with Yobe State on Monday began the distribution of agricultural inputs to vulnerable women farmers from the 8 insurgencies Local Government Areas of the state.

In his remarks at the flag-off ceremony held at the Ministry of Women Affairs office premises, the Focal Person of the NEDC in Yobe State, Dr Ali Ibrahim Abbas revealed that Governor Mai Mala Buni directed them to partner with the Ministry of Women Affairs in identifying the vulnerable women farmers, Widows, unemployed and displaced women by Boko Haram insurgency for the support.

According to him, Women are the most affected by the insurgency as most of them have lost their husbands and adult children that are supporting them to earn a living. “Most of these women are left with Orphans thus making life very difficult for them, we believe with their engagement in farming, they will be able to cultivate foodstuff that will alleviate their sufferings”.

He explained that a total of 769 Vulnerable Women Farmers have been profiled to benefit from the support of the agricultural inputs today. These inputs he said include herbicides, pesticides, Fertilizers among others. “The Commissioner Yobe State Ministry of Women Affairs has provided us with the list of the beneficiaries.”

In her brief address, Hauwa Bah Abubakar, Commissioner Yobe State Ministry of Women Affairs commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for the continued support to the Women in the state especially the vulnerable ones ” recently the Governor supported the Ministry for the distribution of goats and cash to the Women, it is benefiting them for good”.

The Commissioner observed that northern Nigerian Women have fully embraced farming as a business and means of livelihood. ” Today’s farm input support will go a long way in improving their yield at the end of the farming season”.

She urged the participants not to sell it but make judicious use of it in their respective farms. ” I also urge to continue praying for the continuous success of Governor Mai Mala Buni for the benefit of the state citizens”.

One of the beneficiaries who gave her name as Hajia Kyallu Isa thanked NEDC and Yobe State government for the intervention ” I’m filled with joy and happiness to have been given farm inputs free of charge, it is unbelievable and inspiring sincerely”.
