Flooding :Yobe Seeks National lawmakers Intervention- YSHA

Due to the over flooding in the state, Yobe State House of Assembly called on the members representing Yobe at National Assembly to call attention of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for assisting the victims of water flooding across the state.

Yobe Assembly in its sitting on Tuesday, chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mohammed Isa Bello member representing Fune local government said, the call become necessary because the matter was seriously affected communities by the flood this year.

Expressing that, “The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) under the directives of Governor Mai Mala Buni was assisting the victims, but the damages is beyond SEMA, so there is need to call on NEMA through our representatives in the National Assembly to intervene on the matter.” Bello said.

When presentation the motion, member representing Nguru Central, Hon. Lawan Sani Inuwa Nguru said flood has affected highly vulnerable communities that are heavily depends on agriculture, in which basic services are already severely overstretched, so many communities have been totally isolated by the flood water.

He said, it is a pleasure to move the motion on flooding on behalf of the people of Nguru Central Constituency. Adding that, represent to ask the House for assistance to find a lasting solution to this seasonal catastrophic occurrence of water flooding in order to effectively respond to the disaster and also call the attention of NEMA and SEMA to rapidly assess the damages and to immediately intervene in order to curtail the tragedy.

Furthermore, he commend Governor Buni for his recent commitment to addressing the issue of water flooding in the state, adding that, Buni has assured all the affected communities of his administration readiness to respond to this water flooding for a lasting solution.

“As a Chairman House Committee of Humanitarian, I can attest to that, because I have seen how the governor is empowering the state emergency agency (SEMA) with all the resources it required for the agency to timely respond to emergency in the state whenever the need arise.” Nguru said.
