The Chief Judge of Katsina state, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar has identified unrealistic, impracticable, unsustainable methods and approached as reasons for the collapsed of Tsangaya almajiri initiatives.
Justice Abubakar stated this while presenting a paper titled ” permanent solution to almajiri and out of school children in Katsina state” at a future summit organised by Save Katsina Group.
He said ” the Tsangaya integrated approach initiated by the last administration collapse after gulping billions of naira all because of the unrealistic, impracticable, unsustainable methods and approach adopted”.
According to him, there is ungoing attempt spearheaded by the sultan of Sokoto through a committee to articulate comprehensive, practical and workable blueprint on reform of the almajiri system.
He argued that solution to the menace lies not in abolishing the system, but according to him ” more in improving it based on present day’s realities’.
Justice Abubakar expressed delight that Katsina state government has commenced the process of reforming and regulating the almajiri system.
He similarly lamented that of the 13 million out of school children in Nigeria 10 million of them were Almajiris.
He lamented ” one could imagine 10 million potential judges, accountant, engineers etc.being wasted away”.
